Machinery Directive (EU) and EN 619 set the framework for safe conveyors and sortation systems, ensuring that transfer points, picking stations and other high-risk areas are fully protected.

ISO 13857 and ISO 13854 define safety distances and clearance to prevent reach-through hazards and protect against crushing or shearing points, while ISO 14120 specifies how fixed and movable guards should be designed and installed.

In the US, ANSI B11.19 Annex E defines performance requirements for safeguarding, and OSHA 1910.212 covers occupational safety of machinery.
